Places to Visit – North Nottinghamshire

Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre & Country Park at Edwinstowe will provide many days of open air enjoyment for the family.  The Robin Hood Festival is held in August which includes jousting and archery competitions.  There are many villages around Sherwood Forest which bring to life the tales of the hero.  Edwinstowe itself is well known for the delightful St Mary's church where Robin and Marian are thought to have married.  At the northern end of Sherwood Forest is Clumber Park - 3,800 acres of woodland, parkland and lakes, owned by the National Trust.  Another National Trust property in the area is Mr Straw's House in Worksop which provides an insight into everyday life in the early part of the 20th century.  The interior has remained unaltered since the 1930s and features contemporary furniture and household objects.

For fresh air and exercise visit Bestwood Country Park at Arnold, where there are 650 acres of woodland and park with numerous footpaths for informal or guided walks.  The Wonderland Pleasure Park at Farnsfield includes a tropical house with exotic butterflies, a short nine-hole golf course, crazy golf and a hedge maze.  A county renowned for its parks and green places, Nottinghamshire can offer many different places for you to visit and enjoy the countryside, including Creswell's limestone crags located only a few miles south west of Worksop and Langold Country Park with its lake and woodland walks.

Bassetlaw Museum and Percy Laws Memorial Gallery has local exhibits in a town house in Retford which dates from the late 18th century while the Pilgrim Fathers Exhibition is located in the county library, Worksop.  Harley Gallery in Worksop features both contemporary and traditional art exhibitions.
